Marietta's drug-testing proposal
15.01.10
Before Marietta Grave School students join the football team, the band or any other extracurricular project in the next school year they may have one additional requirement to meet: Passing a drug test.
Marietta Controller Herb Young said that after multiple discussions with high seminary Principal Bill Lee and Athletic Director Rick Guimond, drug testing is very meet about to be a regular occurrence.
"We've been gathering information, and we're probably going to commence this next year," Young said. "We would be drug testing any extracurricular activity. There's not something that triggered this, but we do reckon it would be good for the school and it's something we need to do."
Girls basketball coach Scott Cozzens said he would "as a matter of fact be shocked" if anyone on his team didn't pass a test but said he would support the policy.
"Being a facetiousmater of one kid who went through the high school and one there now, I know we don't always know what's going on," he said. "We're not there all the culture, and kids make bad decisions once in a while."
